I am writing as our 2008 conference on Maui'i ends. Four perfect days in
one of the most beautiful locations on Earth. Another varied and perceptive
educational program, thanks to Don Slavik, our Education Chair and our long-suffering
executive director, Gerri Colton. Congratulations.
WTLA has always stood for two things: a first-rate
educational experience and the chance to enjoy
our colleagues from the States out where the sun
sets over real mountains. No politics, no
fund-raising.
We have always stressed the social; It's easier
to compare notes over a glass. This coming year
we plan to return to dining together, in the
tradition of the Inns of Court. I promise, however,
that there will be no boring speeches.
We will return to Sun Valley in February from
the 26th to the 28th and to Maui'i later in June from the 15th to the
19th.
At both conferences we plan to have at least one day committed to a Round
Table. We will bring the trial experts and our members can bring their problem
cases. Need an expert, a theory, a new angle? We plan to help.
In Sun Valley, I hope to have one day where our
members from Oregon can explain to us how it is to practice in a state
without pretrial discovery. How do
they do it? And, is it a good idea?
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Cordially,
Terry O'Reilly,
